Questions + Answers key
Take MCQ Science Test

1.
A solution has a pOH of 11.76. What is the pH of this solution?
2.
The hydroxyl ion concentration of a solution is 1 x 10-9 M. What is the pOH of the solution?
3.
Calculate the pH of 0.01 M HNO3?
4.
5.
Define combination reaction. Give one example for an exothermic combination reaction.
6.
Why does the reaction rate of a reaction increase on raising the temperature?
7.
When an aqueous solution of potassium chloride is added to an aqueous solution of silver nitrate, a white precipitate is formed. Give the chemical equation of this reaction
8.
If the pH of a solution is 4.5, what is its pOH?
1.
pH = 14 - pOH
pH = 14 - 11.76
= 2.24.
2.
pOH = -log10 [OH-]
pOH = -log10 [1 x 10-9]
pOH = -(log10 1.0 + log10 10-9)
pOH = -(0-9 log1010)
pOH = -(0-9)
pOH = 9.
3.
[H+] = 0.01
PH = -log10 [H+]
PH = -log10 [0.01]
PH = -log10 [1 x 10-2]
PH = (log10 1 - 2 log10 10)
PH = 0 + 2 x log10 10
PH = 0 + 2 x 1 = 2
PH = 2.
4.
5.
(i) A combination reaction is a reaction in which two or more reactants combine to form a compound.
(ii) It is also called as synthesis reaction (or) composition reaction (a single product).
(iii) S(s) + O2(g) → SO2(g)
(iv) Sulphur reacts with oxygen it produce sulphur dioxide.
(v) Most of combination reactions are exothermic in nature, because they involve the formation of new bonds, which releases a huge amount of energy in the form of heat.
6.
(i) The temperature of a reaction increases, the adding heat provides energy to break more bonds of the reactant molecules.
(ii) So more reactants ions increases, produce more products.
(iii) Thus speed of the reaction increases.
7.
KCI(aq) + AgNO3(aq) ⟶ AgCl(s) ↓+ KNO3(aq)
white precipitate of AgCl is formed in aqueous solution of potassium nitrate.
8.
pH + pOH = 14
pOH = 14 – 4.5 = 9.5
pOH = 9.5
