Take MCQ Science Test1.
Explain why sound travels faster in warm air than cool air?
2.
What is called compressions and rare factions?
3.
Will you able to hear any sound produced by your friend?
4.
How is sound produced?
5.
What do you mean by acoustics?
1.
Velocity of sound is directly proportional to the square root of temperature of the air.
\(v\alpha \sqrt { T } \)
As the temperature of the warm air is more than that of cool air so, sound travels faster in warm air.
2.
As sound travels through a medium, the particles of the medium vibrate along the direction of propagation of the wave. This displacement involves the longitudinal displacements of the individual molecules from their mean positions. This results in a series of high and low pressure regions called compressions and rare factions.
3.
As the Moon does not have air, you will not be able to hear any sound produced by your friend. Hence, you understand that the sound produced due to the vibration of different bodies needs a material medium like air, water, steel, etc, for its propagation. Hence, sound can propagate through a gaseous medium or a liquid.
4.
The sound is produced by vibrations.
5.
Acoustics is a branch of physics that deals with production, transmission, reception, control, and effects of sound.
