1. In 1791, the national assembly drafted the constitution by which the powers of the king were limited.
2. It also proposed to have three different organs: executive, legislative and judiciary.
3. The members of the National Assembly were indirectly elected by a group of electors.
4. The electors were voted by the male citizens, who were above 25 years of age and who paid taxes.
5. Thus the majority of the citizens did not get voting rights.

The Declaration of Independence (1776):

2. A draft committee was formed to draft the declaration of independence whose members included Thomas Jefferson, Benjamin Franklin, and John Adams.

Townshend Act
1. Though the Stamp Act was abolished in 1766, in the very next year, an Act was passed that imposed taxes on certain goods imported from Britain.
2. Townshend, who was the Chancellor of Exchequer in Britain, brought this act into force and hence came to be called Townshend Act.
