Human beings interact with the environment and modify natural environment according to their needs. They learn to grow crops, domesticate animals and lead a settled life. Then, they started trade through barter system but after the industrial revolution, they required market for further trade because earlier, before massive production, they only produced for subsistence.
They only exchanged goods which were required for daily life. During course of time, requirements of humans is increasing day-by-day. For this only they developed proper system of trade and commerce, so that they get goods at their door steps.

Ecosystem is a system formed by the interaction of all living organisms with the physical and chemical factors of the environment in which they live, all linked by transfer of energy and materials.
All plants, animals and human beings depend on their immediate surroundings. This relation between the living organisms and their surroundings form an ecosystem. There could be an ecosystem of large rainforest, grassland, desert, mountain, lake, river, ocean and even small pond. All these components, help in the survival of life.

The various domains of the environment are as follow
(i) Lithosphere It is the solid crust or hard top layer of the Earth. It is made up of rocks and minerals and covered by thin layer of soil. It provides forests, grasslands for grazing, land for agriculture and human settlements.
(ii) Atmosphere It is an envelope of gases that surrounds the Earth which protect us from harmful rays and scorching heat of the Sun.
(iii) Hydrosphere It is a domain of water that comprises various sources of water and water bodies like rivers, lakes, seas, oceans, glaciers, etc.
(iv) Biosphere It is a narrow zone of the Earth where land, water and air interact with each other to support life.

The human beings have modified the environment according to their needs. With the passage of time, they learnt to grow crops, domesticated animals and started leading a settled life. The invention of wheel, productivity, barter system, transportation-all these factors helped in bringing out a revolutionary change in the life of human beings.

Our environment is changing because of our increasing needs. We are, therefore, modifying and at times even destroying our natural surroundings.

Environment is considered as a basic life support system because it is the provider of basis necessities of life such as air, water, food, and land.

From the early times human beings have been interacting with the environment and they modified it according to their needs.
Early humans adapted themselves to the natural surroundings. They led a simple life and fulfilled their needs from the nature around them. But their needs kept on increasing. They became varied also. life. The wheel was invented. Surplus food was produced. Barter system emerged. Transportation became faster, trade started, commerce developed and information revolution made communication easier and speedy across the world. Industrial revolution made possible and large scale production started.
In the present environment, mind-boggling variety of clothes, games, food items are purchased.
In this way human beings adapted to the environment in order to fulfil their needs

(iii) Hydrosphere: It is the domain of water and comprises various sources of water such as rivers, oceans, lakes, seas, etc. It is essential for all living organisms.
(iv) Biosphere: Biosphere or the living world is comprised of plant and animal kingdom. It is a narrow zone of the earth where land, water and air interact with each other to support life.
