(i) After the Battle of Buxar (1764), the Company appointed residents in Indian states. They were political or commercial agents and their job was to serve for the further interests of the Company.
(ii) Through the residents, the Company officials began interfering in the internal affairs of Indian states. They tried to decide who was to be the successor to the throne, and who was to be appointed at administrative posts
(iii) Mir Jafar was reinstalled. The Nawab had to pay Rs.500,000 every month but the Company wanted more money to finance its wars, and meet the demands of trade and its other expenses.

The conflict between the Bengal nawabs and the East India Company intensified in the early 18th century. The nawabs of Bengal (Murshid Quli Khan, Alivardi Khan and Sirajuddaulah) were strong rulers.
(i) They refused to grant the Company concessions and demanded large tributes to the Company's right to trade.
(ii) They denied the Company any right to mint coins and stopped the Company from extending its fortifications.
(iii) Accusing the Company of deceit, they claimed that the Company was depriving the Bengal government of huge amounts of revenue and undermining the authority of the nawabs.
(iv) The Company on its part said that the unjust demands of the local officials were ruining their trade. To expand their trade, they had to rebuild their forts.

My feelings would be of disappointment and anger.
I would train an army and fight with the British for my right. After defeating the British, I would capture the throne vacated by my uncle after his death. I would join with the other leaders who also opposed the Doctrine of Lapse.

Causes responsible for the battle of Plassey are given below:
(i) In 1756A.D., the Nawab seized the English Factory at Kasim Bazar and occupied Fort William, but Clive recaptured it in 1756A.D.
(ii) Mir afar wanted to dethrone the nawab and entered into a conspiracy against the nawab joining hands with the Britishers.
(iii) Clive blamed the nawab that he was conspiring against English with the help of French.
