One should reasonably expect the following outcomes of democracy:
(a) Accountable, responsive and legitimate government: Democracy provides people with the right to choose their rulers and have control over them. This way, it helps people to elect a government that is accountable to the citizens and responsive to their needs and expectations.
(b) Economic growth and development: A democracy is based on the principle of equality, it is bound to bring to bring about economic growth and development in the country.
(c) Reduction in inequality and poverty: In democracy, everyone is considered equal in the eyes of law and provided equal opportunities.
(d) Accommodation of social diversity: Democracy is the only form of government that attempts to accommodate social differences instead of ignoring or suppressing them.
(e) Dignity and freedom of the citizens: Democracy stands superior to any other form of government in promoting dignity and freedom of every individual.

Merits of democracy:
(a) Democracy assures equality in every sphere of life like political, social and economic.
(b) It upholds basic individual liberties like freedom of speech, expression and thought.
Demerits of democracy:
(a) Democracy gives more importance to quantity rather than quality.
(b) It is not a stable or fixed form of government, there is always uncertainty regarding its functions.
(c) Sometimes, democracy is viewed as government rule by ignorance. Political analysts have condemned democracy as a perverted form of government.

Democracy leads to peaceful and harmonious life among citizens as it gives to its citizens a sound political system based on social equality. We can prove the statement by citing the following instances.
(a) Democracy provides a conducive political environment to citizens for their popular participation in politics.
(b) Every citizen has the right to vote an right to contest election.
(c) Democracy stands for equal economic status to all citizens.
(d) In democracy, government undertakes extensive social welfare schemes and achieve universal literacy rate.
(e) In the social sphere, democracy tries to help its citizens to lead a peaceful and harmonious life by accommodating various social divisions and providing social equality to its citizens.
(f) Democratic governments try to resolve differences, respect differences and try mechanisms which can negotiate differences.

Democratic governments ensure transparency in the following ways.
(a) They make sure that decision-making will be based on norms and procedures.
(b) They allow every citizen to participate in decision-making, directly or indirectly through representatives.
(c) Citizens can examine and find out about the correctness of the procedure of decision-making using their right to information.
(d) They are accountable to the people. If people are not satisfied with the way the government works, they have the right to change the government in the next general elections.
(e) They provide people with power to demand answers from their representatives and reduce the chances of corruption.

Democracy should be judged by its outcome because it opens the path of expectations which is one of the criteria for judging any democratic country. Following points Justify the above statement
(i) The examination procedure of democracy is eternal, as it passes one test, it produces another test.
(ii) It automatically gives rise to expectations as well as complaints by the people when they want to know about the functioning of democracy.
(iii) The fact that people also complaint about democracy indicates the awareness and the ability of people to expect and to look critically at power holders and the high and the mighty.
(iv) It transforms people from the status of a subject into that of a citizen.
(v) Most individuals today believe that their vote makes a difference to the way the government is run and to their own self-interest.

(a) The working sphere of democracy:
(i) Promote equality among citizens
(ii) Enhance the dignity of the individual

(iv) Provide a method to resolve conflict.
(b) Democracy is also having the fields of work are - social situations, economic achievement and the culture of the nation. It has great responsibilities, huge working area and the high population. So whatever work is done by democracy seems to be very small in terms of problems. That's why it is said that the most negative feature of democracy is that its examination never gets over.

People prefer democracy because:
(i) People are their own masters. In a democracy, every individual has a right to vote and choose his representatives in the government. The government is of the people and the laws are made by the people in the government. Laws are made to protect the liberty and freedom of the people.
(ii) In a democracy, no particular religion, region, race or language is given special preference. All individuals are given equal rights and freedom, and there is no discrimination.
(iii) The government is not by force. The opposition parties are allowed to criticise the government.
(iv) Since every individual is given equal rights, there is less danger of conflicts in society. There are less conflict based on caste, religion or region and less social tensions in society. In politics, dignity of the individual is cared for.
10.
(i) In a democratic country people have the freedom to choose their representatives on the basis of universal adult franchise.
(ii) Most societies across the world were historically male dominated. Equal treatment of women became the necessary requirement of a democratic society. Thus, their status in democratic countries improved.
(iii) In a non-democratic setup, there is no legal basis for freedom and dignity of individuals. Democracy in India has strengthened the claims of the disadvantaged and discriminated castes for equal status and equal opportunity.
(iv) Democracy transforms people from the status of subjects under a king or a dictator to the status of citizens with rights and duties. Many Fundamental rights are granted to citizensin a democratic country. One such right is the right to freedom, which is a cluster of many rights like freedom to travel anywhere, freedom to assemble anywhere, freedom to choose any profession, to choose any religion etc.
