Questions + Answers key
Take MCQ Physics Test1.
A bar magnet is cut into two equal parts as shown in the Fig. (a) One part is now kept over the other such that, the P2 is above P1 as shown in the Fig.(b).
If M is the magnetic moment of the original magnet, what would be the magnetic moment of new combination of magnets so formed?

2.
Why is a coil wrapped on a conducting frame in a galvanometer?
3.
Give the magnitude of torque which acts on a coil carrying current placed in a uniform radial magnetic field.
4.
A coil of N turns and radius R carries a current I. It is unwound and rewound to make a square coil of side a having same number of turns N.Keeping the currentI same, find the ratio of the magnetic moment of the square coil and the circular coil.
1.
When the bar magnet is cut into two equal parts, as shown in the Fig. (a), P1 behaves as N and P2 behaves as S and magnetic moment of each part of magnet becomes \(\frac { M }{ 2 } \) . When pole P2 is placed over pole P1 as shown in Fig. (b), the Magnetic moment of the combination is zero i.e. \(\frac { M }{ 2 } -\frac { M }{ 2 } =0.\)
2.
Eddy current in conducting frame help in stropping the coil soon,i.e.in making the galvanometer dead beat.
3.
Torque, \(\tau \) = NBIA sin \(\theta\), where the terms have their usual meanings.
4.
Ratio of magnetic moments,
\(\frac { M_{ s } }{ M_{ c } } =\frac { 2INA_{ s } }{ INA_{ c } } =\frac { 2\left( \frac { R }{ 2 } \right) ^{ 2 } }{ \left( R \right) ^{ 2 } } =\frac { 1 }{ 2 } \)
