Take MCQ Physics Test

1.
Is Huygen's principle valid for longitundinal sound waves?
2.
A lens whose radii of curvature are different is forming the image of an object placed on its axis. If the lens is reversed, will the position of the image change?
3.
For the same angle of incidence, the angles of refraction in media P, Q and R are \(35°,25°,15°\) resp. In which medium will the velocity of light be minimum?
4.
A man stands in front of a mirror of special shape. He finds that his image has a very small head, a fat body and legs of normal size. What can you say about the shapes of three parts of the mirror?
5.
Can we increase the range of a telescope by increasing the diameter of the objective lens?
1.
When we are considering a point of sound wavw. The disturbance due to the source propagates in spherical symmetry, that is, in all directions.
The formation of wavefront is in accordance with Huygen's principle. So, Huygen's principle is valid for longitudinal sound waves also.
2.
No, image will be formed at the same position. This follows from lens maker's formula:
\(\frac { 1 }{ f } =(u-1)\left( \frac { 1 }{ { R }_{ 1 } } -\frac { 1 }{ { R }_{ 2 } } \right) \)
When we interchange R1 and R2, the value of f does not change except for the sign. Hence the image will be formed at the same position.
3.
For medium R, angle of refraction x r) is minimum.Therefore, \(\mu =\frac { \sin { i } }{ \sin { r } } \)is maximum. As\(\mu =\frac { c }{ v } \),therefore, v is minimum, i.e., velocity of light is minimum in medium R.
4.
Very small head indicates that top part of mirror is convex. A fat body indicates that middle part of the mirror is concave. As legs are of normal size, bottom part os the mirror must be plane.
5.
Yes, because objective with larger diameter will collect more light and even the distant objects can be seen.
