Freezing is the process in which a liquid changes into a solid when heat is removed. Melting is the process in which a solid changes into a liquid when heat is added.

It makes sweating less effective at cooling the body because the high humidity levels mean the air already has more amount of water or has more humidity. So, the rate of evaporation decreases as the air can hold less additional water vapour.

(i) If the temperature of a patient is 40°C, it means that the person is suffering from fever.
(ii) If the temperature of a patient is 35.5°C, it means that the person's body does not generate enough heat.

Precautions to be taken while using a digital clinical thermometer.

The clinical thermometer is designed to measure the temperature of human body only. The temperature of human body normally does not go below 35 °C or above 42°C. This is the reason that clinical thermometer has the range from 35°C to 42°C.

The sludge is left in heaps for 3-4 days to allow the water content present in the sludge to evaporate. This reduces the weight and volume of the sludge, which makes it easier and cheaper to transport and also, it reduces the chances of spillage of the sludge, which contains harmful contaminants.

A laboratory thermometer is not used to measure our body temperature as it doesn't have a kink. The kink, in a clinical thermometer, prevents mercurylevel from falling on its own so that temperature can be read even when the thermometer is no longer in contact with our body.

The trees in mountain habitats are usually cone-shaped having sloping branches because this shape of the mountain trees makes the rainwater and snow slide off easily without damagingthe branches and leaves.

The Water Cycle (Hydrological Cycle)
The water cycle is the continuous movement of water on, above, and below the surface of the Earth. It shows how water changes its state—liquid, gas, and solid—and moves through different parts of the environment.
The main processes involved are:
1. Evaporation:
• The Sun heats water in oceans, rivers, lakes, and ponds.
• Water changes from liquid to water vapor (gas) and rises into the atmosphere.
2. Transpiration:
• Plants release water vapor from their leaves into the air.
• This also contributes to the moisture in the atmosphere.
3. Condensation:
• Water vapor in the air cools down at higher altitudes.
• It changes back into tiny water droplets, forming clouds.
4. Precipitation:
• When water droplets in clouds become heavy, they fall to the Earth as rain, snow, sleet, or hail.
5. Collection/Runoff:
• Water flows over the land as rivers and streams and eventually returns to oceans, lakes, or underground reservoirs (groundwater).
6. Infiltration:
• Some water soaks into the soil and replenishes groundwater, which may later feed into rivers or wells.
• This cycle repeats continuously, ensuring that water is recycled and available for all living things.

Relationship between the scales
1. Celsius and Kelvin
Kelvin is just a shifted version of Celsius.
0°C = 273.15 K
The size of 1°C is equal to 1 K.
2. Celsius and Fahrenheit
Fahrenheit uses a different zero point and scale.
0°C = 32°F
100°C = 212°F
The degree size differs: 1°C = 1.8°F
3. Kelvin and Fahrenheit
Kelvin and Fahrenheit can also be related using Celsius as an intermediate step.
Conversion Formulas
1. Celsius ↔ Fahrenheit
°F = (°C × 9/5) + 32
°C = (°F − 32) × 5/9
2. Celsius ↔ Kelvin
K = °C + 273.15
°C = K − 273.15
3. Fahrenheit ↔ Kelvin
K = (°F − 32) × 5/9 + 273.15
°F = (K − 273.15) × 9/5 + 32
Example: Convert 25°C to Fahrenheit and Kelvin:
°F = (25 × 9/5) + 32 = 77°F
K = 25 + 273.15 = 298.15 K

The reason for the different watering schedules lies in the natural habitats and biological adaptations of the two plants:
1. Cactus: A Desert Specialist
Cacti are xerophytes, meaning they are adapted to survive in extremely dry environments where it rarely rains.
Water Storage: They have thick, fleshy stems that act like a reservoir, storing large amounts of water to use during dry periods.
Minimizing Water Loss: Instead of leaves, they have spines, which have a very small surface area. This significantly reduces water loss through a process called transpiration.
Waxy Coating: Their stems are covered in a thick, waxy layer (cuticle) that helps lock moisture inside.
Watering Needs: Because they store water so efficiently, watering them daily would lead to root rot and eventually kill the plant.
2. Hibiscus: A Tropical Native
Hibiscus plants originate from tropical and humid environments where water is plentiful.
High Transpiration: They have many large, broad leaves. These leaves lose water quickly through evaporation, especially on hot or sunny days.
No Water Storage: Unlike cacti, hibiscus stems do not have specialized tissues to store water for long periods.
Watering Needs: To keep their large leaves and vibrant flowers healthy, they require consistently moist soil and often need daily watering to prevent dehydration.
