Plants show two major modes of nutrition, i.e.
(i) Autotrophs are those which can synthesise their own food.

The reaction between an acid and a base is known as neutralisation reaction. In this reaction, both acid and base cancel each other's effect. Neutralisation reaction results in the formation of salt and water. During this reaction, energy in the form of heat is evolved.
Acid + Base \(\longrightarrow\) Salt + Water + Heat \(\uparrow\)
e.g. when sodium hydroxide (NaOH) is added to hydrochloric acid (HCI), sodium chloride (NaCl) and water (H2O) are obtained.
NaOH + HCI \(\longrightarrow\) NaCI + H2O + Heat \(\uparrow\)
Sodium Hydrochloric Sodium Water
hydroxide Acid Chloride

43.
Carbonic acid.
44.
Stomata are the tiny pores present on the surface of leaves through which gaseous exchange takes place in plants.
45.
The major factor which determines the climate of a place is latitude.
46.
Strong wind and rain can cause soil erosion from the barren land. This can be shown by performing an activity.
Take a wooden block and place some soil or sand on it. Keep an ice-cube tray at one end of the wooden black. Take a small battery-operated fan or hair dryer and hold it at the other end of the black near sand so that it blows the sand into the tray.
We will observe that when the fan blows it causes sand or soil particles to move and these get land in the various compartment of the ice-cube tray. This activity shows that the wind blows the soil on a barren land and may cause soil erosion.

47.
The process by which green plants can prepare their own food is called photosynthesis. Green plants possess chlorophyll in their leaf and utilises carbon dioxide (from air) water, minerals (from soil, through root) as raw material and sunlight as source of energy and convert light energy into chemical energy. The food thus synthesied is in the form of starch (carbohydrate). The overall reaction for photosynthesis can be given as follows:

48.
