(i) Hitler promised to build a strong nation, undo the injustice of the Versailles Treaty and restore the dignity of the German people.
(ii) He promised employment for those looking for work and a secure future for the youth.
(iii) He promised to weed out all foreign influences and resist all foreign conspiracies against Germany.

Nazi ideas found support in the army and the class of big landlords. They received the full backing of the industrialists who were alarmed at the growth of the socialist and communist parties.

Fascism was first propagated by Benito Mussolini of Italy. Under the Fascist system, power of the state is vested in one person or a group of persons . The two fascist powers were Germany and Italy.

(i) Nazi state sought to establish full control over its people by dismantling democratic institutions and establishing a totalitarian form of government and projecting communism, socialism, and democracy as great enemies.
(ii) Civic rights like freedom of speech, press, and association guaranteed by the Weimar Constitution were suspended.
(iii) All political parties and trade unions were banned except for the Nazi party and its affiliates.
(iv) Special surveillance and security forces were created to order the society in ways that Nazis wanted.
(v) To propagate Nazism, the whole education system was put under the control of the state. School textbooks were rewritten, racial science introduced, Jew teachers and children cleansed out.
(vi) Media was used skilfully to control minds and emotions and to win support for the regime and population its worldview. Nazi ideas were spread through visual images, radio, posters, catchy slogans, and leaflets.
(vii) Providing employment through state-funded work creation programs.
(viii) Subjecting the youth to an intense period of Nazi ideological training both inside and outside school.

(i) Total control over schools: Hitler put all schools under total control of the state. Undesirable children, i.e. Jews, Blacks and Gypsies were first segregated. Subsequently, 'undesirable children'-were thrown out of school. And finally in the 1940's they were taken to the gas chambers.
(ii) Teachers: Teachers who were Jews or seen as politically unreliable were dismissed.
(iii) New Education Policy: He announced his new education policy. 'Good German' children were subjected to a process of Nazi schooling and ideological training. All school textbooks were rewritten. Racial science was introduced to justify the Nazi ideas on race. Children were taught to be loyal, submissive, hate Jews and worship Hitler. Stereotypes about Jews were popularised through maths classes.
(iv) Spirit of Violence and Aggression: To inculcate the spirit of violence and aggression, new sports were introduced. Hitler believed that boxing could make children iron-hearted, strong and masculine.
(v) Youth organisation: Youth organisations were made responsible for educating German youth in 'the spirit of National Socialism'. Youth was forced to join youth organisations. The 10-year-old had to join 'Jungvolk' and 14-year-old 'Hitler Youth'.
