Take MCQ Biology Test1.
Transmitting tissue is found in ______.
Micropylar region of ovule
Pollen tube wall
Stylar region of gynoecium
Integument
2.
Assertion(A) : Sporopollenin preserves pollen in fossil deposits
Reason (R): Sporopollenin is resistant to physical and biological decomposition
assertion is true; reason is false
assertion is false; reason is true
Both Assertion and reason are not true
Both Assertion and reason are true.
3.
Arrange the layers of anther wall from locus to periphery
Epidermis, middle layers, tapetum, endothecium
Tapetum, middle layers, epidermis, endothecium
Endothecium, epidermis, middle layers, tapetum
Tapetum, middle layers endothecium epidermis
4.
Identify the correctly matched pair.
Tuber - Allium Cepa
Sucker - Pistia
Rhizome - Musa
Stolon - Zingiber
5.
Choose the correct statement from the following
Gametes are involved in asexual reproduction
Bacteria reproduce asexually by budding
Conidia formation is a method of sexual reproduction
Yeast reproduce by budding
6.
What is reproduction?
7.
Distinguish tenuinucellate and crassinucellate ovules.
8.
Write short note on Pollen kitt.
9.
What is polyembryony. How it can commercially exploited.
10.
What is endothelium
11.
Distinguish mound layering and air layering.
12.

2.
(d)
Both Assertion and reason are true.
3.
(d)
Tapetum, middle layers endothecium epidermis
4.
(c)
Rhizome - Musa
5.
(d)
Yeast reproduce by budding
6.
Reproduction is a biological process in which an organism give rise to offsprings. This helps to maintain continuity of its species.
7.
ovule is divided into two types based on the position of the sporogenous cell
| Tenuinucellate type | Crassinucellate type |
|---|---|
| Sporogenous cell is hypodermal with a single layer of nucellar tissue around it. | Sporogenous cell is sub hypodermal |
| Have very small nucellus | Have fairly large nucellus. |
8.
| Source | Contributed by the tapetum |
| Colour | Yellow or orange |
| Content | Carotenoids or flavonoids |
| Nature | Oily layer forming a thick viscous coating over pollen surface |
| Use | Attracts insects protects damage from UV radiation. |
9.
Occurrence of more than one embryo in a seed is called polyembryony.
The seedlings formed from the nucellar tissue in citrus are found better clones for orchards. Embryos derived through polyembryony are found virus free.
10.
In some species (unitegmic, tenuinucellate) the inner layer of integument becomes specialized, The layer is nutritive in function for the embryosac. This layer is called endothelium or integumentary tapetum.
Example:
Asteraceae.
11.
| Mound Layering | Air Layering |
|---|---|
| A lower flexible branch of the plant is selected. | A healthy, stiff branch of the plant is selected. |
| The branch is bent to the ground. | The stem is girdled at the nodal region hormones applied. |
| A part of the branch is buried in the soil leaving the tips exposed and allowed for rooting | The girdled portion is covered with Damp or moist soil and allowed for rooting. |
12.
In Bryophyllum, the leaf is succulent and notched on its margin. Adventitious buds (epiphyllous buds) develop at these notches. They develop into new plants forming a root system. They become independent plants when the leaf gets decayed.
13.
Advantages of modern methods
(i) Plants with desired characteristics can be multiplied rapidly in a short duration.
(ii) Plants produced are genetically identical.
(iii) Tissue culture can be carried out in any season.
(iv) Plants which do not produce viable seeds and seeds that are difficult to germinate can be propagated.
(v) Rare and endangered plants can be propagated. Disease-free plants can be produced cells can be genetically modified and transformed.
