Benzene on reaction with a mixture of cone. HNO₃ and cone. H₂SO₄ produces nitro benzene as product which on further nitration will result in the formation of m-dinitrobenzene.

(i) Nitro methane on reduction with Sn / HCl (acid medium reduction) produce, methylamine as product.

Nitrobenzene does not undergo Friedel - Crafts reactions due to the strong deactivating nature of -NO₂ group.

Primary and secondary nitroalkanes, having α-H , also show an equilibrium mixture of two tautomers namely nitro - and aci - form.
