1.
(i) Palestine Liberation Organisation (PLO) was formed in 1964 to federate various Palestinian groups that previously had operated as clandestine resistance movements.
(ii) It came into prominence after the Arab-Israeli War of June 1967.
(iii) The PLO was engaged in a protracted guerrilla wars against Israel until the 1980s, before entering into peace negotiations in the 1990s. Yasser Arafat was its outstanding leader.

European Union (EU):
(i) In December 1991 the members of EC came together and signed the Treaty of Maastricht by which the European Union was established in 1993 with a single market.
(ii) With the establishment of European Union, the members worked on other areas such as foreign policy and internal security.
(iii) This treaty paved the way for the creation of a single European currency - the euro. In 2017, Britain voted to exit the EU (British Exit known as "Brexit").
(iv) Today the European Union has 28 member states, and functions from its headquarters at Brussels, Belgium.

Warsaw Treaty Organisation
(i) When West Germany became a member of NATO, USSR saw it as a direct threat and decided to make a counter arrangement.
(ii) In May 1955, a "treaty of mutual friendship, co-operation and mutual assistance" was signed by Soviet Union and seven of its European allies.
(iii) It was named as The Warsaw Pact, as the treaty was signed in Warsaw, the capital of Poland.
5.
(i) Brinkmanship is the practice of trying to achieve an advantageous outcome by pushing dangerous events to the brink of active conflict.
(ii) It occurs in international politics, foreign policy, and military strategy and could involve even the threat of nuclear weapons.
