Questions + Answers key
Take MCQ Physics Test1.
If the intensity of radiation in a photocell is increased how does the stopping potential vary?
2.
Define intensity of radiation on the basis of photon picture of light. Write its SI unit.
3.
The stopping potential in an experiment on photoelectric effect is 2V. What is the maximum kinetic energy of the photoelectrons emitted?
4.
Define the term 'stopping potential' in relation to photoelectric effect.
5.
Work function of aluminium is 4.2 eV. If two photons, each of energy 2.5 eV, are incident on It surtace, will the emission of electrons take place? Justify your answer
1.
The stopping potential does not depend on the intensity of incident radiation; so stopping potential will remain unchanged.
2.
The amount of light energy or photon energy incident per meter square per second is called the intensity of radiation.
SI unit: \(\frac { W }{ { m }^{ 2 } } \) or J/s-m2.
3.
Maximum kinetic energy, (Ek)max = eVs = e(2V) = 2eV
4.
The minimum retarding (negative) potential of anode of a photoelectric tube fro which photoelectric current stops or becomes zero is called the stopping potential.
5.
In photoelectric effect, a single photon interacts with a single electron. As individual photo has energy (2.5 eV) which is less than work function, hence emission of electron will not take place.
