Questions + Answers key
Take MCQ Physics Test1.
The given graph shows the variation of charge q versus potential difference V for 2 capacitors C, & C2. The two capacitors have same plate separation but the area of plate C2, is twice that of C1, which of the two graphs P & Q correspond to capacitors C1 & C2, why?

2.
Gauss law is true for any closed surface, no matter what its shape or size is. Justify.
3.
The graph shown here shows the variation of total energy (E) stored in a capacitor against the value of the capacitance (c) itself. Which of the two is kept constant for this graph, whatever the charge an capacitor of the potential used to charge it?

4.
What are the factors on which the capacity of a parallel plate capacitor with dielectric depend?
5.
What is the work zone by the field in moving a small positive charge from A to P? Given reason.
1.
Q represents C2 & P represents C1
Reason:
The slope \(\frac{q}{v}\) = C is grearer for Q.
According to given conditions \(\frac { \varepsilon A }{ d } \) the capacitance is larger for C2
∴ The area is large & d is same
Hence Q represents C2.
2.
This is due to the fact that
(i) electric field is radial
(ii) electric field E ∝ \(\frac{1}{R^2}\)
3.
The given graph represents E ∝ \(\frac{1}{C}\)
This is satisfied by the expression E = \(\frac{q^2}{2c}\)
E ∝ \(\frac{1}{C}\)
i.e. the charge q is kept constant.
4.
(i) Area of the plates
(ii) separation between the plates.
(iii) Dielectric constant of the dielectric between the plates. The capacitance of a capacitor depend upon geometrical dimension and the nature of the dielectric between the plates.
5.
The work done by the field is negative. This is since the charge is moved against the force exerted by the field.
