Thus, we can write Leela's age in terms of Radha's age

Now, number of pencils, when x = 1 is 10 or \(10 \times 1=10 \times x \Rightarrow \)x=2 is 20 or\(10\times 2=10\times x \Rightarrow x=3\)is 30 or \(10\times 3=10\times x\)
∴ Number of pencils for x students are 10 x.

Thus, (14 + 27) + 13 = 14 + (27 + 13) = 54
By using variables, we can write this property of numbers also in general way. Let a, b and c be three numbers each of which can take any numerical value. Then, (a+b)+c=a+(b+c)
This property is called an associativity of addition of numbers.
