South India being close to sea, provides plenty of sea animal products like fish, etc. Chiefly grown cereal there is rice.
So, the people there mainly eat rice, fish, meat, etc. Vegetarians make idli, sambhar, uttapam, banana chips, coconut chutney. They use coconut oil as a cooking medium.
