Questions + Answers key
Take MCQ Maths Test1.
Cholan walks 6 km in 1 hour at constant speed. Find the distance covered by him in 20 minutes at the same speed.
2.
Find whether 12, 24, 18, 36 in that order can be expressed as two ratios that are in proportion.
3.
Divide the numbers given below in the required ratio. 40 in the ratio 6 : 14
4.
Kumaran has Rs. 600 and wants to divide it between Vimala and Yazhini in the ratio 2 : 3. Who will get more and how much?
5.
The cost of parking a bicycle is Rs. 5 and the cost of parking a scooter is Rs. 15. Find the simplest ratio of the parking cost of a bicycle to that of a scooter.
1.
1 hour = 60 minutes
Distance covered by cholan in 60 minutes = 6 km
Distance covered in one minutes = \(\frac{6}{60}\)
Distance covered in 20 minutes = \(\frac{6}{60} \times 20\)
= 2 km
2.
Yes, 12 : 24 : : 18: 36
Because product of extremes = 12 x 36 = 432
Product of means = 24 x 18 = 432
∴ 12 : 24 : : 18 : 36.
3.
40 in the ratio 6 : 14.
Dividing 40 into 6 + 14 = 20 equal parts and
\(40\times\frac{6}{20}=12\)
\(40\times\frac{14}{20}=28\)
\(\therefore\) The numbers are 12, 28.
4.
Divide the whole money into 2 + 3 = 5 equal parts then, Vimala gets 2 parts out of 5 parts and Yazhini gets 3 parts out of 5 parts.
Amount Vimala gets =Rs. 600 ×\(2\over 5\) = Rs. 240
Amount Yazhini gets =Rs. 600 ×\(3\over 5\) =Rs. 360
Vimala received Rs. 240 and Yazhini gets Rs. 360, which is Rs. 120 more than that of Vimala.
5.
Parking cost of bicycle = Rs. 5
Parking cost of Scooter = Rs. 15
\(\frac { Parking\ cost\ of\ bicycle }{ Parking\ cost\ of\ scooter } =\frac { 5 }{ 15 } =\frac { 1 }{ 3 } \)
Parking cost of bicycle : scooter = 1 : 3
