The centre of a sphere of which the reflecting surface of a spherical mirror is a part is called
pole
centre of curvature
cradius of curvature
aperture
3.
Which of the following has curved reflecting surface?
plane mirrors
spherical mirrors
simple mirrors
None of the above
4.
It the angle of incidence is 45°, then the angle of reflection is ______.
5.
Nature of the images formed by a convex mirror is _________.
6.
Multiple reflection
7.
Refractive index
8.
Snell’s law
9.
Regular reflection
10.
Convex mirror
11.
Define the refractive index of a medium.
12.
Give two applications of a concave and convex mirror.
13.
What is called a spherical mirror?
14.
What is dispersion? Explain in detail.
15.
The radius of curvature of a spherical mirror is 20 cm. Find its focal length.
16.
Refractive index of water is 4/3 and the refractive index of glass is 3/2. Find the refractive index of glass with respect to the refractive index of water.
17.
If two plane mirrors are inclined to each other at an angle of 90°, find the number of images formed.
1.
(c)
radius of curvature
2.
(c)
cradius of curvature
3.
(b)
spherical mirrors
4.
( )
45°
5.
( )
virtual image
6.
Kaleidoscope
7.
Kaleidoscope
8.
sin i /sin r = μ
9.
plane mirror
10.
Rear - view mirror
11.
Refractive index of the medium is the ratio of the speed of light in the air to the speed of light in that particular medium.
μ = \(\frac { Speed\ of\ light\ in\ air\ (c) }{ Speed\ of\ light\ in\ the\ medium\ (v) } \)
12.
Applications of a concave mirror:
i) Used as shaving mirror as they provides magnified image
ii) Used in torches, search lights as they direct the light to a long distance.
Applications of a convex mirror:
i) Used in vehicles as rear view mirror
ii) Used on roads where there are sharp curves and turns
13.
If the curved mirror is a part of a sphere, then it is called a spherical mirror.
14.
i) Splitting of white light into its seven constituent colours on passing through a transparent medium is known as dispersion of light.
ii) Dispersion occurs because light of different colours present in white light have different wavelength and they travel at different speeds in a medium.
iii) The refraction of a light ray in a medium depends on its speed.
iv) As each coloured lights has a different speed, the constituent coloured lights are refracted at different extents inside the prism.
v) Refraction of a light ray is inversely proportional to its wavelength.
vi) Thus, the red coloured light which has a large wavelength is deviated less while the violet coloured light which has a short wavelength is deviated more.
vii) Formation of rainbow is an example of dispersion of white light.
15.
Radius of curvature = 20 cm
Focal length (f) =\(\frac { Radius\quad of\quad curvat }{ 2 } \)
=\(\frac { R }{ 2 } =\frac { 20 }{ 2 } \)=10 cm
16.
wμg = \(\frac { Refractive\ index\ of\ glass }{ Refractive\ index\ of\ water } \)
\(=\frac { \frac { 3 }{ 2 } }{ \frac { 4 }{ 3 } } =\frac { 9 }{ 8 } \)=1.125
17.
Angle of inclination = 90°
Number of images for=\(\frac { { 360 }^{ 0 } }{ \theta } -1=\frac { { 360 }^{ 0 } }{ { 90 }^{ 0 } }\)-1=4-1=3
