(a) The functions of food are as follows:
(i) It helps in the growth and development of a living organism.
(ii) It provides energy to do physical work.
(iii) It helps to perform body functions.

Sprouted seeds are the seeds with seedlings. Seeds are first soaked in water for one day. The water is drained and the seeds are kept wrapped in a wet cloth and left for one more day. After sprouting, they can be eaten raw. They can also be boiled. They can also be made into a tasty snack by adding spices to them.

People living in different regions of our country use different methods of cooking food depending upon the availability of food products, e.g. in Northern India, wheat is grown, so people eat chapati as a staple food, where as in South India, people are rice eaters because rice is produced there in large quantity.

South India being close to sea, provides plenty of sea animal products like fish, etc. Chiefly grown cereal there is rice.
So, the people there mainly eat rice, fish, meat, etc. Vegetarians make idli, sambhar, uttapam, banana chips, coconut chutney. They use coconut oil as a cooking medium.

Ingredients of pizza are maida, butter, cheese and vegetables.

Food is needed by organisms for the following reasons

No, all living beings do not need same kind of food. As we know that different living organisms have different eating habits according to their structures, requirements, habitats, etc.
They may be herbivores (eat only plant products), carnivores (eat other animals) and omnivores (eat both plants and animals).
e.g. human being eats bread, rice, fruits and vegetables. Animals such as cow and goat eat grass, oilcake and leaf. Lion and tiger eat other animals.
