The trees in mountain habitats are usually cone-shaped having sloping branches because this shape of the mountain trees makes the rainwater and snow slide off easily without damaging the branches and leaves.

Differentiate between excretion and secretion in plants and animals

The adaptations are
(a) Leaves of aquatic plants are narrow and ribbon-like which allow them to bend in the flowing water.
(b) Stems/Stalks of leaves of aquatic plants are long, hollow and light which allow them to float on the surface of water.

The lotus have the following characteristics
(i) Its stalk has long tunnels and holes which help the stalk to float on the surface of water.
(ii) It has large, circular or disc-shaped leaves, which make them float on the water surface.
(iii) The huge circular leaf is well adapted for buoyancy and photosynthesis.
(iv) Its leaf has an oil surface coatingThis keeps the leaf waterproof and protects against wetting and decaying.

The surroundings where organisms live is called habitat. The organisms depend on their habitat for food, water, air, shelter and other needs. e.g. Habitat of a camel is a desert.

(a) Ria and her family were suffering from these symptoms because they are present in high altitude region where oxygen supply is limited.
(b) (i) After few days, everybody's body has adjusted or adapted to the conditions of mountain region.
(ii) When we go from plains to mountains, our body faces difficulties due to sudden changes it is exposed to. After few days however, they all get acclimatised to these sudden changes.
(c) Ria is observant and sincere girl who tries to learn from her experience and gathers information about changes that ignite her curiosity.

A moving car though moves is not considered as a living organism because of the following reasons:
(i) Living organisms have the ability to move on their own, whereas a car moves by the burning of fuels like diesel and petrol.
(ii) Like all living organisms, a car does not show any other living characteristics like respiration, digestion, reproduction or growth.

Animals in aquatic habitat have streamlined bodies which help them in surviving underwater.

Deep sleep or hibernation is adapted by animals living in mountain habitats.

Rose and jasmine can be produced by stem cuttings.

The habitats can be classified as:
Terrestrial habitats - Grassland and rice field
Aquatic habitats - Pond and ocean

Habitat is a place where animal lives and gets its food.
