The human heart is a muscular organ made up of cardiac muscles. It is a four- chambered organ to prevent intermixing of oxygenated and de-oxygenated blood. A thick wall muscle called septum that separates the two sides left and right of the heart. Look at the picture.

The tubes – blood vessels - Arteries are the vessels which carry blood away from the heart to various organs of the body. Since the blood emerges from the heart under high pressure, the arteries have thick, elastic walls. Veins collect the blood from different organs and bring it back to the heart. They do not need thick walls because the blood is no longer under pressure, instead they have valves that ensure that the blood flows only in one direction. On reaching an organ or tissue, the artery divides into smaller and smaller vessels to bring the blood in contact with all the individual cells. The smallest vessels have walls which are one-cell thick and are called capillaries. Exchange of material between the blood and surrounding cells takes place across this thin wall. The capillaries then join together to form veins that convey the blood away from the organ or tissue.

Each capillary cluster in the kidney is associated with the cup- shaped end of a tube that collects the filtered urine (see adjoining figure). Each kidney has large numbers of these filtration units called nephrons packed close together. Some substances in the initial filtrate, such as glucose, amino acids, salts and a major amount of water, are selectively re-absorbed as the urine flows along the tube. The amount of water reabsorbed depends on how much excess water there is in the body, and on how much of dissolved waste there is to be excreted. The urine forming in each kidney eventually enters a long tube, the ureter, which connects the kidneys with the urinary bladder. Urine is stored in the urinary bladder until the pressure of the expanded bladder leads to the urge to pass it out through the urethra. When we inhale air, oxygen reaches the alveoli in lungs, which are surrounded by thin capillaries. These capillaries carry blood in them. The oxygen diffuses from the alveoli walls into the blood capillaries. This blood travels through the body. Haemoglobin binds with oxygen and carries it along with blood.
Carbon dioxide is produced as a waste product during respiration in the cells of tissues. CO2 is more soluble in water. Hence, it is mosty transported in the dissolved form in our blood plasm. From blood, CO2 is diffuses into the lungs through alveoli and then expelled out through nostrils.

Ventricles have to apply lot of pressure and push the blood out of the heart to reach all the body cells. Hence its walls are thicker and muscular as compared to the walls of atria.

Transpiration is important because

Plants require water to carry out photosynthesis and other processes. Cells of roots are in close contact with soil and so they actively take up ions. The ion-concentration increases inside the root and hence, osmotic pressure increases resulting in the movement of water from soil into the roots and this process occurs continuously.
However, this pressure by itself is unable to move water to the highest points of plant body. For this, plants use another strategy known as transpiration.
Evaporation of water molecules from the cells of leaf creates a suction which pulls water from the xylem of roots to leaves.
The continuous flow of water in root xylem is due to transpirational pull.
The water which is lost through the stomata is replaced by water from the xylem vessels.
Thus, transpiration helps in absorption and upward movement of water and minerals dissolved in soil from roots to leaves.

If platelets are not present in the blood, then clotting at the site of injury will not take place. This will result in continuous bleeding and could be fatal for the organism.

(iii) (b): The epidermal surface of the leaf exhibits a large number of minute openings called stomata. The stomata are bordered by two specialized epidermal cells - the guard cells which in some cases are accompanied by subsidiary cells. The walls of guard cells are unevenly thickened.
