Since, the image is 6m away from the plane mirror. So, it means that the object is also 6m away from the mirror.

[Because OP = PI]
So, when the person moves 2m towards the plane mirror, then the distance between the person and the plane mirror will be equal to (6 m- 2 m)= 4 m, this means that distance between the image and the mirror will be 4m.

The distance between the person and his image = PO'+ PI' = 4 + 4 = 8 m

Plants take in oxygen and give out carbon dioxide. In the cells, oxygen is used to breakdown glucose into carbon dioxide and water as in other organisms. In plants each part can independently take in oxygen from the air and give out carbon dioxide.
Leaves of the plants have tiny pores called stomata for exchange of oxygen and carbon dioxide. Like all other living cells of plants, the root cells also need oxygen to generate energy. Roots take up air from the air spaces present between the soil particles. The stems of some plants have tiny pores called lenticels which help in exchange of gases.
38.
Treatment of waste water involves physical, chemical and biological processes which remove physical, chemical and biological matter that contaminate waste water.
These steps are as follows :
(i)Waste water is passed through bar screens. Large objects like rages, sticks, cans, plastic packets, napkins get removed.
(ii) Waste water then goes to a grit and sand removal tank. In this the speed of the waste water is reduced to allow, sand grit and pebbles to settle down.
(iii) The water is then allowed to settle in a large tank which is sloped towards the middle solids like faeces settle down at the bottom and are removed by a scrapper. A skimmer removes the floatable solids like oil and grease. The sludge is then transferred to another tank where it is decomposed by anaerobic bacteria.
(iv) Then air is passed through clarified water to allow aerobic bacteria to grow, which consume the remaining organic waste. This water is then released into the water bodies.
39.
Electric bell consists of an iron hammer around which a wire is wound. When current is passed by pressing the button, the wire turns into a temporary magnet. The hammer is attracted towards gong to make sound. When this strikes, the current is disconnected automatically. It happens due to shift arrangement in it. The magnetic property of wire is lost and it comes back to its original position through a spring. In this way, we get separated hammering, resulting in ringing of an electric bell

40.
The reasons of depletion of water table:
(1) Increase in population.
(2) Industrialisation.
(3) Agricultural activities.
(4) Scanty rainfall.
(5) Deforestation.
(6 Decrease in the effective area for seepage of water.
Effect of increasing population:
As the population increases, demand for construction of houses, shops, offices, roads and pavements is increased. This decreases the open areas like parks and playgrounds. This in turn decreases the seepage of rainwater into the ground. More over a huge amount of water is required for construction work. Often groundwater is used for this purpose.
So, on the one hand we are consuming more groundwater and on the other hand we are allowing less water to seep into the ground. This results in the depletion of water table.

The following steps may be followed:
(i) Draw two perpendicular lines to represent the two axis and mark them OX and OY. O is the intersection of the two axis
(ii) Decide the quantity to be shown along the x-axis and that to be shown along the y-axis. From the given data, we are measuring distance at given intervals of time. So time is to be shown along x-axis distance along y-axis
(iii) Choose a scale to represent the given data. Suppose we have 4 squares (or 40 divisions) along x-axis and 4 squares (or 40 divisions along y-axis. Along x-axis we can take 10 divisions equal to 15min and along y-axis we can take 10 divisions equal to 20 km.
(iv) Mark the values of time and distance on the respective axis.
(v) Now mark points on the graph paper to represent each set of values for distance and time.
(vi) Join all points on the graph. Graph obtained is shown below:

Forests maintain balance in nature. There conservation is the need of the hour. We should take the following steps to conserve the forests.
(i) Planned harvesting An efficient way to get wood from forests for our requirements is to cut only some of the trees in an area. The uncut trees prevent erosion. Fruits of these trees produce seeds so that new trees can grow. This way the forest cover is maintained.
(ii) Afforestation This is the practice of renewing a forest by planting seedlings or small trees. These days, in our country, planned afforestation is being done not only by the government but also by private organisations for commercial purposes. Selective cutting of trees in these plantations provides wood for construction and also keeps the forest cover intact.
(iii)Protection from fire Huge forest areas are destroyed by fire every year. Fire may occur due to the carelessness of people or due to lightning during a storm or by friction between dry stems and dry branches of trees.Forest fires are controlled by spraying fire extinguishing solutions from aircrafts or by changing the direction of wind by using strong blowers.
50.
(a) Seawater is collected in shallow pits. It is then allowed to evaporate in the sun. As the water evaporates, the salt solution becomes supersaturated (concentrated). This supersaturated solution cannot hold the excess salt. Thus, it separates out in the form of salt crystals. These salt crystals are collected and are redissolved in water and filtered to remove insoluble impurities. The clear solution is again evaporated to obtain the crystals of pure salt.
(b) Salt is obtained from sea water by the process of evaporation.
