The canals connect the spongocoel to the outside through ostia.The canals are generally lined by choanocytes.The continuous beating of flagella of choanocytes maintain a steady current of water through the canals.

Annelid characters Peripatus have jointed parapodia (legs), haemocoel, trachae for respiration and head with a pair of compound eyes and antennae.

The tiny food particles are strained out of the water current by the choanocytes which pass them on to the other cells.These cells ingest food particles and digestion is intracellular.Planktons are the important food source for the filter feeders such as sponges.

Closed circulatory is found in most annelids and all vertebrates. In these groups blood flows at faster speed and high pressure due to force provided by the rythmic contraction and relaxation of heart muscles.
