Housework indeed involves a lot of tasks. A number of these tasks require heavy physical work. Physical work involves fetching water, carrying heavy headloads of firewood, etc.
Housework involves more tasks such as washing clothes, cleaning, sweeping, cooking, etc. The work women do is strenuous and physically demanding and usually these words are connected with men only.

It's not just mothers and other women who perform the housework. There are domestic workers who work at others' home in order to earn. Their life is full of struggle.They do lot of work like cleaning, sweeping, washing clothes, cooking, care-taking, etc. They are paid very less as their work does not have much value. They have to begin their work as early as five in the morning and work as late as twelve at night.

According to research reports on Samoan society, children never went to school.
Both girls and boys took care of their younger siblings. Boys used to go for fishing and plant coconuts once they completed nine years whereas girls were given freedom after the age of fourteen. Boys were supposed to do most of the work while cooking and girls just helped in preparation.

If my mother or those involved in doing the work at home went on a strike for a day, the house will be all jumbled, because it is the mother who manages all the work in the house.

Yes, this is because the nature has made them different and generally they do differently, with some exceptions.

The examples of growing up of children of Samoan islands and children of Madhya Pradesh clearly explain that there are many different ways of growing up. The societies start making differences between girls and boys from a very young age.
We ourselves have experienced this when we were given different categories of toys to play with. Boys were given cars, trains and girls were given dolls, kitchen sets, etc. Toys became a method of telling children that the two sexes have different futures. The distinction were made in smallest and everyday things like dressing of girls and boys, games they were allowed to play.

Melani is a domestic worker and she used to work with a rich family that lived in a three-storeyed house.
She had a very bad experience working there as follow
(i) Her memsahib was very strange. She used to shout all the time to get any work done.
(ii) Her day used to begin at 5 o'clock in the morning.
(iii) She was not allowed to have more than a cup of tea and two dry rotis.
(iv) She was also not allowed to wear chappals in the house. In winters, her feet would swell up with the cold.
(v) She was very scared of the memsahib but also felt angry and humiliated.
