1.
How is the action of LH different in male and female?
2.
What is mwant by LH-surge?When does it occur?
3.
(a) How many spermatozoa are formed from one secondary spermatocyte?
(b) Where does the first cleavage division of zygote take place?
4.
Mention the fate of corpus luteum and its effect on the uterus in the absence of fertilisation of the ovum in a human female.
5.
Mention the names and the characteristics of different uterine wall layers in humans.Which one of them undergoes cyclic changes during menstrual cycle?
6.
A mother is ready to feed her newborn baby just after parturition by nature.
(i) Name the cells which secrete milk.
(ii) Name the process of producing during the first few days, after parturition.
(iv) Name the hormone meant for release of milk.
(v) Why the doctors recommend breastfeeding during the initial period of infant growth?
7.
(a) Mention the event of meiosis that occurs in the tertiary follicle in a human ovary.
(b) Name the phase of menstrual cycle, when a Graafian follicle transforms into an endocrine structure.Write its action thereafter.
8.
Name the pituitary hormones influencing Leydig cells and Sertoli cells present in human testes.Explain the functions of these cells.
9.
Describe important human reproductive disorders in human female.
10.
Describe the structure of mammalian sperm.
11.
Which one of the following statements is false in respect of viability of mammalian sperm?
Sperm is visible for only up to 24 hours
Survival of sperm depends on the pH of the medium and is more active in alkaline medium
Viability of sperm is determined by its motility
Sperms must be concentrated in a thick suspension.
12.
A change in the amount of yolk and its distribution in the egg will affect
Fertilization
Formation of zygote
Pattern of cleavage
Number of blastomeres produced
13.
Foetal ejection reflex in human female is induced by
differentiation of mammary glands
the pressure exerted by amniotic fluid
the release of oxytocin from pituitary
fully developed foetus and placenta
14.
In human beings, the eggs are:
Skin lecithal
Macrolecithal
Mesolecithal
Alecithal
1.
In male, LH is called ICSH (Interstitial cells stimulating hormone) which stimulates the leydig cells of the testis to secrete testosterone. In females, LH promotes ovulation and controls the formation of corpus luteum after ovulation.
2.
LH-surge refers to a very high (maximum) level of LH during the middle of menstrual cycle.
It occurs around the 14th day of mentrual cycle, just before ovulation.
3.
(a) Two
(b) Fallopian tube
4.
In the absence of fertilisation, the corpus luteum degenerates.
It causes dis integration of the endometrium of uterus, leading to menstruation
5.
The external thin membranous,perimetrium.
The middle, thick layer of smooth muscles, myometrium.
The inner glandular layer lining the uterine cavity, endometrium.Endometrium undergoes cyclic changes.
6.
(i) Lactiferous cells of alveoli of mammary glands. They are present in breast.
(ii) Lactation
(iii) Colostrum.
(iv) Oxytocin hormone released by posterior lobe of pituitary body.
(v) Mother's milk is low in fat but rich in proteins such as lactalbumin and lactoprotein. Colostrum also contains major immunoglobin IgA. It provides passive immunity to the newborn baby.
7.
(a) The primary oocyte grows in size and completes meosis I,forming a larger haploid cell, the secondary oocyte and a smaller cell, the first polar body.
(b) In the luteal phase, the ruptured graafian follicle transforms into corpus luteum.
Corpus luteum secretes large quantity of progesterone to maintain the endometrium.
8.
Luteinizing hormone influences Leydig cells;they secrete the hormone, testosterone.
Follicle stimulating hormone influences Sertoli cells;they produce certain factors necessary for spermiogenesis.
9.
Reproductive disorders of human female

10.
Structure of spermatozoan
The male sex cells, the spermatozoa of different kinds of animals exhibit a great variety of form.Mostly they show a remarkable uniformity of structure. The main structural subdivisions of a typical mature spermatozoan are Head, Neck, Middle piece and Tail.
Head. Anterior part of head cap, and inside it is located acrosome. At the base of acrosome is present nucleus. The acrosome is derived from compact and dense mass Golgi apparatus which is concerned with the secretion of hyaluronidase enzyme. This enzyme dissolves the egg membrane during fertilisation. The genetic function is embodied in the sperm nucleus which consists almost entirely of DNA plus nuclear proteins.
Neck. It is the part of sperm lying beneath the head and frontal part of middle piece. It is very short in the form of constriction. It is composed of two centrioles, namely proximal centriole and distal centriole.
Middle piece. This part of spermatozoan is almost entirely composed of mitochondria. It supplies the required amount of energy (ATP) to the sperm tail for motility.
Tail. It is the posterior-most part of sperm mainly composed of axial filament surrounded by cytoplasm and cell membrane. It is meant for providing motility.
