Fertilisation is not an obligatory event for fruit production in certain plants as some fruits are also developed from unfertilised ovary called parthenocarpic fruits. These are seedless fruits, such as pomegranate, grapes, etc. Flowers of these plants are sprayed with a growth hormone that induces fruit developmenteven though fertilisation has not occurred. The ovules of such fruits, however, fail to develop into seeds.

The colony in honeybees consists of
(i) Sterile diploid females as workers.
(ii) One fertile diploid female as queen.
(iii) Fertile haploid males as drones. In case of honeybees, both haploid and diploid individuals are formed as a result of incomplete (cyclic) parthenogenesis and sexual reproduction.
Fertilised eggs (zygote) give rise to queen and workers (both are females) by the process of sexual reproduction and unfertilised eggs (ova) develop into drones (males) by the process of parthenogenesis. 

The sexual life cycle in which meiotic division occurs after formation of zygote will result in haploid gametophytic plant and zygote haploid gametangia.This type of life cycle is called haplontic life cycle.The graphical representation of haplontic life cycle is shown in the figure:

i) The part A is seed and B are pericarps.
ii) The part of the flower which develops into seed and fruit is ovule and ovary, respectively
iii) The seeds germinate to produce new plants while pericarp is protective in function.It protects the young seed.

i)The plant is monoecious or homothallic, i.e. the male and female reproductive structures are present on the same plant.
ii)Two other monoecious plants are oak and pine.
iii) staminate/male.
pistillate/female
