The term 'blue revolution' refers to the remarkable emergence of aquaculture as an important and highly productive agricultural activity. It has a vision to achieve economic prosperity of the country and the fishers and fish farmers as well as contribute towards food and nutritional security through full potential utilization of water resources for fisheries development in a sustainable manner, keeping in view the bio-security and environmental concerns. It brings a high  aquaculture in India. Aquaculture refers to all forms of active culturing of aquatic animals and plants, occurring in marine, brackish or fresh waters.

Transformation of mature cells into meristematic cells leading to the formation of callus is called dedifferentiation. Development of entire plants from the components cells of callus is called redifferentiation.

Cell wall is the most important physical barrier in such experiments. This can be overcome by treatment with enzymes like cellulase and pectinase which have the ability to digest the cell wall and liberate the naked protoplast surrounded only by the cell membrane.

Maize, wheat, rice, bathua, spinach, pulses have biofortified varieties. Maize hybrids have twice the amount of amino acids, fortified wheat variety has high protein content, fortified rice has high quantity of iron. Consumption of such biofortified foods and will vastly improve public health. It may even help overcome several nutrient deficiency disorders latent in our country.

The nutrient medium used for plant culture contains all micro and macronutrients present in soil in desired amount.

(i) Increasing hair growth on aerial parts of plants.
(ii) Rendering the flowers nectar less.
(iii) Enabling plants to secret insect killing chemicals (toxins).

(i) Semi-dwarf developed varieties.
(ii) High yielding Varieties.
(iii) Being disease resistant.
(iv) Early maturing wheat varieties.

The collection of all the diverse alleles of all the genes of a crop plant is called germplasm collection. It is of great benefit in plant breeding programmes as it offers the breeders the entire genes and alleles and the characteristics which they express. The breeder selects the most favourable characters of a particular gene and manipulates its transfer to a desirable parent.

The technology called MOET or Multiple Ovulation Embryo Transfer is used to increase the success rate.

The answer to both the problems of increased incidence of life style diseases and large scale malnutrition in the population is  biofortification. It is the technique of producing crops with higher level of vitamins and minerals or protein mean to improve public health e.g.
1. Vitamin-A enriched carrots, spinach and pumpkin;  Vitamin-C enriched  bitterguard, bathua, mustard, tomato; protein-enriched beans and garden peas have been developed at IARI, New Delhi.
2.Rice variety with double the quantity of essential amino acids like lysine and tryptophan has been produced.
3. Maize hybrids with double the quantity of essential amino acids like lysine and tryptophan has been produced.
4. Wheat variety with high protein content has been developed.
