Lakshay and Varun were going to the market. On the way they saw tie and dye shop of clothes Varun was surprised to see that and was unable to understand surprised to see that and was unable to understand how the clothes get coloured there. When they came back Lakshay explained reason to Varun Diazonium salts are the most reactive derivatives of aromatic primary amines These are formed as a result of diazotization reaction carried under ice cooled conditions.Diazonium salts lead to coloured azodyes by coupling reactions under acidic or alkaline conditions. A very popular azodye is methyl orange.
Give the answer of two following questions:
(i) What are the constituents of methyl orange?
(ii) How is methyl orange is useful?
(iii) How is methyl orange is useful?
(iv) What are the values shown by them?
22.
Why is an amide more acidic than amine?
1.
NH3 is more soluble in water due to more H-bonding.
2.
(i) Gabriel's phthalimide synthesis: Phthalimide when treated with alcoholic potassium hydroxide is easily converted into potassium phthalimide which on treatment with alkyl halide followed by hydrolysis with acid or alkali yields phthalic acid and a primary amine.
(ii) Coupling reaction: It involves the reaction of benzene diazonium salts with phenols or aryl amines. Coupling of phenol takes place in mild alkaline solution while with aromatic 10 amines in mild, acidic medium.
3.

4.
It acts as a base and provides electrophile \(\stackrel{\oplus}{\mathrm{N}} \mathrm{O}_2\)
5.
It is used in preparation of dyes.
6.

7.
-NH2 group has lone pair of electrons, therefore, it increases electron density at o and p-positions and that is why electrophilic substitution takes place at o- and p-positions.
8.

9.

10.
Four structural isomers are possible.

11.
Both p-chloroaniline and anilinium hydrochloride are \({ 1 }^{ \circ }\) amines and hence cannot be ditinguished by carbylamine reaction.
12.
NaNH2 brings out dehydrobromination to form propene.
13.
Due to delocalization of the +ve charge on the benzene ring, aromatic diazonium salts are more satble, i.e., option (b) is correct.
14.

17.
(c)
(CH3)2NH
18.
(a)
Aniline
19.
(c)
\({ CH }_{ 3 }NH_{ 2 }\)
20.
(d)
m-dinitrobenzene
21.
The constituents of methyl orange are sodium salt of sulphanilic acid and N-dimethyl aniline
(ii) The structure of methyl orange is:
(iii) It is very useful indicator for acid alkali titrations In acidic medium its colour is red and it becomes alkaline or basic
(iv) Varun was curious and Lakshay was having scientific attitude, friendly nature helpful.
22.
The amide has the following resonating structures:

Due to the delocalisation of lone pair of electrons on N over C==O group, amino group acquires a positive charge which ma, es N-H bond weak. Moreover, the anion formed after removal of a proton is also stabilized by resonance as :

However, no such stabilization is possible in amines.
