A machine was purchased for Rs. 1,00,000 on 1^st January, 2012. It was decided to depreciate it at 10% per annuin under straight line method. Prepare machinery account for 3 years. Accounts are closed on 31^st December, each year.

An asset was purchased for Rs. 1,00,000. The rate of depreciation is 10% per annum. Calculate the annual depreciation for the first two years under the diminishing balance method .

(i) Assets used in the business, cost of which can be written off over their useful life are known as depreciable fixed assets.
(ii) Buildings, machinery, vehicles, furniture, computers and equipment are examples of depreciable fixed assets.

(i) The amount which is expected to be realised at the end of the estimated useful life of an asset is known asscrap value of the asset.
(ii) In determining the scrap value, costs to be incurred fer removal and sale ef the asset should be excluded from the estimated gross realisable value. It is also known as residual value.
