All banking companies owned by private people are called private sector commercial banks.E.g Lakshmi Vilas Bank, Kotak Mahindra Bank.

Government paid the share capital of the banks to the private owners and took over as a government banks.This is called as nationalization of banks.E.g: New Bank of India merged with Punjab National Bank.
