Forensic chemistry applies scientific principles, techniques and methods to investigate a crime.

The drugs which cause loss of sensation are called anaesthetics. They are given to patients when they undergo surgery.
There are two types.
i) General anaesthetics ii) Local anaesthetics

Treatment of certain diseases by destroying the invading organism without damaging the cells of the host, by the use of certain organic compounds is known as Chemotherapy. It is widely used for treating cancer.

1. It should not be toxic.
2. It should not cause any side effects .
3. It should not affect the receptor tissues .
4. It should not affect the normal physiological activities .
5. It should be effective in its action .
6. Chemicals which satisfy the above criteria only are preferred as drugs.

Food additives:
These are the chemicals added to food for specialized functions as a preservatives, colourants, artificial sweeteners, flavour enhancers, Antioxidants.

1. In Daniel cell zinc metal acts as anode and copper metal acts as cathode .
2. Aqueous zinc sulphate solution makes the anodic electrolyte. Whereas aqueous copper sulphate solution makes the cathodic electrolyte.
3. Saturated solution of potassium chloride (KCl) acts as salt bridge .
4. At anode, zinc undergoes oxidation losing its electrons .
. Zn_(S) ⟶ Z²⁺+ 2e^- (Oxidation)
5. At cathode, copper ions from cathodic electrolyte gain electrons at the surface of cathode and get reduced to copper metal.
Cu²⁺ + 2e^- ⟶ Cu_(S)(Reduction)
Net reaction,
Zn + Cu²⁺ ⟶ Zn²⁺ + Cu_(s)
6. Cell potential of Daniel cell is 1.1V

1. It should have suitable colour.
2. It should be able to fix itself or be capable of being fixed to the fabric.
3. It should be fast to light.
4. It should be resistant to the action of water, dilute acids and alkalies.
