Echo. Echo is the phenomenon of repetition of a sound due to its reflection from the surface of a large obstacle. When a loud sound is produced in an empty hall, the same sound is heard again after some time.
Conditions for the production of an echo:
(i) Sufficient time gap between original and reflected sounds. Due to persistence of hearing, we keep on hearing a sound for 0.1 s, even after reflected sound must reach the ear 0.1 s after the direct original sound.
(ii) Sufficient distance between the source of sound and the obstacle. The speed of sound in air is 344 m/s. The distance traveled by sound in\(0.1\quad s=344\times 0.1\times 0.1=34.4\quad m\) . So echo will be heard if the minimum distance between the source of sound and the obstacle =34.4/2=17.2 m.
(iii) Nature of the obstacle. For the formation of echo, the reflecting surface must be rigid such as a building, hill or cliff.
(iv) Size of the obstacle. Echoes can be heard if the size of the reflecting surface is quite large.

(a) Positive Work. Work done by a force is positive if the force acts in the direction of displacement.Then

Examples:
(i) When a body falls freely under gravity, the work done by the force of gravity is positive.
(ii) When a horse pulls a cart, the applied force and displacement are in the same direction, the work done by the horse is positive.
(b) Negative Work. Work done by a force is negative if the force acts opposite to the direction of displacement.Then
\(W=F\times s\times cos\ 180°=F\ s(-1)=-F\ s\)
Examples:
(i) When a body is lifted up, the work done by the gravitational force is negative.This is because the gravitational acts vertically downwards while the displacement is in the vertically upward direction.
(ii) When brakes are applied to a moving vehicle, the work done by the braking forces is negative.The braking force acts in the backward direction while the displacement of the vehicle is in the forward direction.

Newton's first law of motion. According to this law, a body at rest or in uniform motion will remain at rest or in uniform motion unless an unbalanced force acts upon it. This law consists of three parts:
(i) First part, says that a body at rest continues in its state of rest. For example, a person standing in a bus falls backward when the bus suddenly starts moving forward. When the bus moves, the lower part of his body begins to move along with the bus while the upper part of his body continues to remain at rest due to inertia. That is why a person falls backward when the bus starts.
(ii) Second part, says that a body uniform motion continues moving in straight line path will a uniform speed. for example, when a moving bus suddenly stops, a person sittng in it falls forward. As the bus stops, the lower part of his body comes to rest along with the bus while upper part of his body continues to remain in motion due to inertia and so he fall forward.
(iii) Third part, says that a body moving with a uniform speed in a straight line cannot change itself its direction of motion. For example, when a bus takes a sharp turn, a person sitting in the bus gets a force acting away from the center of the curved path due to his tendency to move in the original direction. He has to hold on a support to prevent himself from swaying away in the turning bus.

The practice of naming is one of the greatest inventions of man. Millions of animals and plants are named differently in different languages in different parts of the world. It means the names used for one organism differs from place to place. For example, Argemone a common weed has as many as ten to twele Hindi names alone. Some call it 'Firangi Dhatura', Sial Kanta', 'Pila Dhatura', 'Bharband', 'Kandhari', 'Satya nasi buti', 'Katela', 'Jahriber', 'Ugar Kanta' etc. Same thing is applicable to animals and other plants. Sometimes the common names are misleading. Same name may be used for different organisms in different parts.
To avoid this confusion Linnaeus gave a system in which an organism is given a name with two components-the first part is the generic name and the second part is the specific name. Thus the scientific name of common cat is Felis domestica, and that of tiger is Felis tigris. This system of giving a name with two components to an organism is called 'Binomial system of nomenclature'. The scientific names thus given to the organism are recognized all over the world. Hence, confusion is avoided on this aspect.

Test of a colloidal solution or a suspension.
(i) A colloidal solution is turbid and the particle settles down on adding salt. In a suspension, particles settle down on keeping under the influences of gravity.
(ii) If the particles in a heterogeneous and opaque solution can be seen with naked eyes and get settled on keeping, then it is a suspension.

Different types of Motions:
1.Translatory Motion When a body moves as a whole along a straight or curved path, it is said to be in translatory motion.It is again of two types:
(i) Rectilinear motion Here a body moves as a whole along a straight path.For example a train moving on straight rails has translatory rectilinear motion.
(ii) Curvilinear motion.Here a body moves as a whole along a curved path For example motion of a bicycle taking a turn along a curved path.
2.Rotatory motion.When a body rotates about a fixed point or axis , it has rotatory motion For example motion of a flywheel about a shaft.
3.Vibratory or oscillatory motion. When a body moves to and from about a mean position again and again it has vibratory or oscillatory motion For example the motion of the pendulum of a wall clock.
4.Complex motion. Sometimes ,the motion of a body may be a combination of more than one types of motion For example a ball rolling down an inclined plane has botth translatoruy and rotatory motions.

Given that, mass of the cube = 50 g
Side of cube = 1.5 cm
