A ball is gently dropped from a height of 20 m. If its velocity increases uniformly at the rate of 10 ms-2 with what velocity will it strike the ground? After what time will it strike the ground?

Initial velocity = 0
According to second equation of motion
\(s =u t+1 / 2 a t^{2} \)
\(=0+1 / 2 \times 4 \times(10)^{2} \)
\(=0+\frac{1}{\not 2} \times \not4^{2} \times 100 \)
= 0 + 200
= 200
Distance covers = 200 m.

Height of a ball(s) =20 m
Acceleration (a)=10 m / s2
Initial velocity (u)=0
Final velocity (v)= ?
According to third equation of motion.
\(v^{2}=u^{2}+2\) as
\(=0+2 \times 10 \times 20 \)
\(v^{2} =0+400 \)
\(v =\sqrt{400} \)
\(v =\sqrt{20 \times 20} \)
\(v =20 \mathrm{~m} / \mathrm{s}^{2}\)
Velocity of ball strike the ground = 20 m / s2
According to first law of motion
v = u + at
20 = 0 + (10) x t
\(t =\frac{20}{10} \)
v =2 second
Time taken to strike the ground = 2 second

(b) Acceleration = \(\frac { v-u }{ t } \)
= \(\frac { 30-0 }{ 7 } \) = 7.5 m/s2
(c) Displacement = Area of ΔABC
= \(\frac { 1 }{ 2 } \) x base x height
= \(\frac { 1 }{ 2 } \) x 4 x 30 =60 m
