Foreign Medical Graduates Examination

The National Board of Examinations (NBE) is the authority conducting the Foreign Medical Graduates Examination or FMGE. An assessment exam, FMGE, will evaluate Indian nationals with a medical degree from any country outside India. Implemented since 2002, the entrance examination of FMGE will be mandatory for all Foreign Medical Graduates (FMGs) in order to be able to practice in India. FMGE is conducted twice a year in the months of June and December. Aspirants qualifying FMGE will be able to obtain a permanent or provisional registration with State Medical Council (SMC) or the Medical Council of India (MCI).

FMGE 2021 Eligibility Criteria

The Foreign Medical Graduates (FMGs) are required to possess the following eligibility criteria of FMGE 2018 in order to be able to appear in the examination. Candidates can check the FMGE 2018 eligibility criteria listed below:

  • Candidate must be an Indian National or Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) to take FMGE 2018 for December session.
  • To fulfill FMGE eligibility criteria 2018, candidates must hold a primary medical qualification. Furthermore, the qualification must be approved by the Indian Embassy situated in the country from where the qualification is obtained. The qualification should be recognized for enrollment as a medical practitioner in the respective country.
  • As it is mandatory to possess the medical qualification at the time of FMGE 2018, it must also be obtained on or before November 30, 2018.
  • Candidates who have completed an undergraduate and postgraduate degree from the United States/United Kingdom/Australia/New Zealand/Canada and are seeking registration to practice in India are not required to appear for FMGE 2018 considering they are recognized for enrolment as medical practitioners in that country.
  • Only those candidates who will fulfill the above mentioned criteria are eligible to take FMGE 2018.
