Our Institution owes its birth to the magnificent role played by the ANBANATHAPURAM VAHAYARA CHARITIES (A.V.C.) Mayiladuthurai. It was at the end of the last century that a great ancestor of the well known five families who now constitute the A.V.C. trust. Thiru. S. RAMALINGAM Pillai, set apart a sixth share of the property of his deceased son Thiru. R. VELAYUTHAM Pillai for charitable purposes. His descendants settle down in Anbanathapuram, Enathimangalam, Pallavarayapet, Kargudy and Kanganamputhur villages. 

 In the Academic year 1987-' 88 the polytechnic got permission to start a three year Diploma course in computer Technology with an intake of 60 students. In the academic year 2001-' 02 the polytechnic got permission to start three year Diploma courses in Information technology and Electronics and communication Engineering with an intake of 90 students. Now the total intake of the polytechnic college is 420 students. With the undertaking and co-operation of the enlightened parents, their wards, support, encouragement and guidance given by the course committee, the institution serves the cause of Technical Education and upholds the good tradition of A.V.C. Polytechnic College.
