About College

Akal Degree College for Women, Sangrur was established in 1970 by a group of public spirited and enlightened philanthropists whose dominant impulse was to create awareness among the ladies of Malwa Region of Punjab who were then considered as the most educationally backward lot. The college was intended to feed the rural population in particular, although it was located in the city of Sangrur. Affiliated to Punjabi University, Patiala (Punjab) the college is situated in the district town of Sangrur which formerly was the capital of erstwhile Jind state.

The college owes its existence to the generosity and vision of S. Gurbaksh Singh Sibia. The opening ceremony of the college was perfomed by Late Lt. General Harbaksh Singh Ji. The foundation stone of the new college-building was laid in 1980. For inspiration the college looks towards His Holiness late Sant Attat Singh who was the first to lanch movement for the spread of female education in the Malwa region in the Punjab.
