Dr Somervell Memorial C S I Medical College

This hospital was started in Karakonam, situated in the Kunnathukal village of Thiruvananthapuram District, by the Missionaries of the London Missionary Society in 1894 with the aim of fighting the epidemics that played havoc in the area. In 1975, the South Kerala Diocese took over the hospital and named it Dr. Somervell Memorial C.S.I. Hospital. This institution is run by the South Kerala Medical Mission, a Charitable Society.The Medical College attached to this hospital was sanctioned in 2002. It is a 500 bedded Medical College Hospital with 21 specialities. A college of Nursing, a School of Nursing and Allied Health Courses also have been started attached to the hospital, which has a daily average OP Strength of 850 and the bed occupancy is 80-85%.Out of the 100 seats for MBBS, 50 are selected by the Commissioner of Entrance Examinations, and 50 in the management quota.
