GENERAL SHIVDEV SINGH DIWAN GURBACHAN SINGH KHALSA COLLEGE

General Shivdev Singh Diwan Gurbachan Singh Khalsa College, Patiala is the premier institution of higher education in the state of Punjab. It is well known not only for imparting quality education to its students but also for giving them the right platform and exposure to develop their potential. It provides environment conducive to holistic and life-long learning where students emerge as quality centric, socially viable, globally employable growth catalysts, nurturing intrinsic values, searching novel competencies and envisioning new horizons. Thus it fulfills its motto of- "Strive for Perfection, Settle for Excellence." The college was founded in 1960 with the untiring efforts of Padam Shri Dr. Khushdeva Singh and the pillar of Sikh history- Dr. Ganda Singh was its first principal.  Significant contribution was made by General Shivdev  Singh  Diwan  Gurbachan Singh  Trust  in  establishing  the college. Since then, the college has been progressing by leaps and bounds. In 1991, the college was taken over by Shiromani Gurdwara Prabandhak Committee, Sri Amritsar.  The college made rapid progress under the able leadership of SGPC presidents- Panth Rattan late Jathedar  Gurbachan  Singh  Tohra, Jathedar  Jagdev  Singh  Talwandi, Bibi Jagir Kaur and Prof. Kirpal Singh Badungar.

The college is a multi-faculty institution and it offers both post-graduate and undergraduate degrees in diverse streams. The college offers scholarships on merit basis to students who excel in academics, sports and co-curricular activities and provides fee concession to the financially poor students. The College is fully conscious of its social responsibility in becoming a partner in the process of nation building. It always aims at equity, social justice and ethical values, and continues to strike a balance between traditional cultural beliefs and innovative measures, necessary for shaping the mind of a global citizen.
