About College

Consequent to the industrial development in and around Trichy the government of Tamil Nadu sanctioned the establishment of this Government Polytechnic College during the third Five Year Plan. The College Started Functioning from June 1963 at the premises of Sashasyee Institute of Technology, Trichy. With in short period of three years , it was moved to the capus in June 1966. This Polytechni has welll constructed building and fully equipped laboratories and workshops built in a sprawling 96 acres of land . Now ir has come to be recognised as premier technical institution in the State of Tamil Nadu.

Gpt is situated at Thuvakudimalai, 16 km from Trichy on the Trichy-Thanjavur National Highway. It is flanked on one side by the wall- known National Insitute of Technology Trichy(NITT), and on the other side by the public sector gaint Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd.(BHEL).Besides , there are a number of other small scale units as well as major industries like the Ordnance Fatory Trichy (OFT) , Railway Workshop, Golden rock,Seamless Steel Tube Plant (SSPT), Magnetic Hydro Power Project (MHD) andy Heavy Alloy Penetration Projet (HAPP) , in its has an excellent infrastructure, well-equipped Laboratories and Workshops, state-of-the-art Computer and IT Center, Central Library, spacious Auditorium, hygienic Canteen, and separate hostels and gyms for boys and girls.
