About College

Sri Sai Baba National Degree College (Autonomous) Anantapur has a long, creditable history extending to pre-Independent period. Anantapur National Education Trust (ANET) which runs the college was started during the freedom struggle by a venerable patriotic teacher, Sri Sirivaram Adinarayana Rao in 1942. He gave practical shape to his visionary ideas by establishing a small primary school. Deeply rooted in traditional values, he adopted a couple of simple mottoes for his school: Vidyaya Amrutamasnute (knowledge bestows immortality) and Tamasoma Jyothirgamaya (lead us from darkness to light). Gradually the institution grew and in 1969 SSBN High School was upgraded to a junior college, the first one to get this honor in the town. From then on the institution presented a phase of faster growth. It is interesting to note that the management of the institution passed to its first alumnus (the present correspondent) from that year, indicating a rare continuity in the running of the institution over three decades. SSBND College was started in 1981. The college set before itself some lofty goals which included the establishment of a premier educational institution, imparting quality education at affordable cost to the rural and underprivileged sections of the population, promotion of Indian culture and transformation of the institution in the course of time to a Deemed University to cater to the needs of a perpetually draught prone Rayalaseema region of the state.
