Chartered Accountant Common Proficiency Test (CA CPT) Entrance Examination

The Common Proficiency Test ( CPT ) 2015 is conducted by the Council of the Institute Chartered Accountants of India ( ICAI ). The CPT or Common Proficiency Test is the first level of Chartered Accountancy examinations in India. It is an objective type examination and consists of 200 multiple choice questions. CPT covers four basic subjects divided into two sections . The exam is held twice every year in the months of June and December wherein students can register after class X and give the exam after class XII. A student who has passed higher qualifications than 10th class such as B.Com, M.Com, LL.B., ICWA, CS, MBA is also, in the first instance, to appear and pass CPT Examination to join the Chartered Accountancy Course.

CPT is exempted for the Graduates, Post Graduates and the students having equivalent degrees. Chartered Accountant Common Proficiency Test ( CA CPT ) Entrance  Examination Test Pattern - 2015 :

The Common Proficiency Test (CPT) in Paper-pencil Mode (PP Mode) will be held on 14th June, 2015 in accordance with the revised scheme of education, training and examination for the Chartered Accountancy Course.

It is a 4 hours duration test comprising of two sessions of 2 hours each with a break between two sessions.

The Test will comprise of objective type questions with negative marking for choosing wrong answers.

All students registered for Common Proficiency Course on or before 1st April, 2015 with the Board of Studies of the Institute and who have passed / already appeared or going to appear in April / May, 2015 in 10+2 examination or equivalent and who have revalidated their CPT registration , if registered on or before 1st April, 2012(as per Board of Studies Announcement No. BOS/Announcement/227/13 dated 22nd January, 2013 hosted on the website of the Institute www.icai.org) will be eligible to appear in the CPT to be held in June, 2015.

Date, Timings and Minimum Marks for Passing the Common Proficiency Test

In order to pass the CPT ( Examination ), a candidate is required to secure, at one sitting, a minimum of 30 percent marks in each Section and a minimum of 50 percent marks in the aggregate of all Sections, subject to the principle of negative marking, being 1/4 ( one fourth ) for each wrong answer, as per Regulation 36A.
