National University of Advanced Legal Studies ( NUALS )

The National University of Advanced Legal Studies (NUALS) was established by Act 27 of 2005 of the Kerala State Legislature. By the same Act, the National Institute for Advanced Legal Studies (NIALS) established by the Bar Council of Kerala Trust in 2002 merged with the NUALS. In 2008, an amendment streamlined the powers and functions of the authorities of the University and ensured the active involvement of the Government of Kerala.The University is recognized by the University Grants Commission under section 2(f) of the UGC Act.It is also a member of the Association of Indian Universities (AIU).

The main objects of the University are: (a) to advance and disseminate learning and knowledge of law and legal and judicial processes, professional legal education and their role in national development; (b) to develop in the student and research scholar a sense of responsibility to serve society by developing skills in regard to advocacy, legal services, legislation, law reforms etc; and (c) to promote legal and judicial reforms as are needed to strengthen administration of justice in India. The Chief Justice of India is the Visitor and the Chief Justice of Kerala, the Chancellor of NUALS.

The NUALS Campus is situated in a 10 acre plot at kinfra Hi-Tech Park at Kalamassery, Kochi, the industrial capital of Kerala and the seat of the Kerala high court. At present the Academic Block, Hostels for Boys and Girls, Amenities Centre and Faculty Apartments are operational. The construction of the Administrative Block and library Block, with assistance from the UGC and State Goverment, is in progress. The NUALS campus provides adequate academic infrastructure - dedicated internet access, Wi-Fi Connectivity, on-line legal resources including Heinonline, Westlaw India and Manupatra, a computer lab, besides a good collection of standard books and reports, both foreign and indian.

Admission procedure for National University of Advanced Legal Studies Entrance Examination – 2014

Admissions to the 5year B.A. LL.B. (Hons) Degree Programme (Choice Based Credit & Semester) are made through the Common Law Admission Test (CLAT)

The CLAT is an All India Entrance Examination conducted by 11 National Law Universities for admissions to their under-graduate and post graduate degree programmes

NAULS Exam is based on CLAT 2014.

Norms for admission to the B.A. LL.B. (Hons) Degree Programme, 2014-2015, under the Foreign Nationals Category.

Admission Procedure

Candidates who are appearing / appeared in the qualifying examination are also eligible to apply but they should submit the result of their qualifying examination on or before 25th May. 2014

Foreign Nationals are exempted from taking CLAT 2014

The admission will be made strictly on the basis of interest merit in their 10+2 examination or an equivalent examination

The following documents should be enclosed with the filled in Application Form uploaded in the University website

Copy of the candidate’s Passport

Copy of the statement of marks at the Qualifying Examination (i.e. an examination equivalent to 10+2) along with equivalence certificate from the Association of Indian Universities (AIU), New Delhi;

Percentage Conversion Certificate from the School/Board, in case of Grades;

Copy of the Birth Certificate;

Demand Draft (DD) for Rs5000/- drawn in favour of the

‘REGISTRAR, NUALS’

payable at Kochi / Ernakulam (name of the candidate should be written at the back of the Demand Draft (DD)); and Three passport size photographs
