Union Public Service Commission Engineering Service Examination

The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) as per tentative schedule will be taking the Engineering Service Exam (ESE) 2017-18 at three levels; Prelims, Main and Interview. The ESE is conducted by the Commission to recruit engineering graduates at various public sector departments such as Central Water Engineering, Indian Railways, Telecommunication, Power etc. The recruitment is done for Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering and Electronics & Telecommunication Engineering.

The IES Preliminary Exam 2018 will be conducted on 7th January 2018 and all the students who clear the prelims exam will be shortlisted to appear in IES Mains Exam, which will be conducted on 1st July 2018. UPSC ESE 2021 Exam Pattern

The ESE 2019 examination shall be conducted as follows:

Stage-I: It is a (Preliminary/Stage-I) Examination which has Objective Type Papers for the selection of applicants for the Stage-II Engineering Services (Main/Stage-II) Examination.

Stage-II: Applicants who get qualify in Stage-I will appear in Engineering Services (Main/Stage-II) Examination which is Conventional Type Papers.

Stage-III: Personality Test.

Marks distribution and Paper Pattern

Stage-I: The Preliminary/Stage-I Examination will consist of two objective type (multiple choices) questions papers and carry maximum 500 marks (Paper 1 – 200 Marks and Paper II – 300 Marks). The Marks obtained in Stage-I Examination by the applicants who are declared qualified for Stage-II Examination will be counted for deciding their final order of merit. The number of applicants to be admitted to the Main/Stage-II Examination will be about 6-7 times the total number of openings to be filled in that year.

There will be negative marking. One-Third (0.33) of the marks assigned to that question will be subtracted as the penalty for every wrong answer.

Stage-II will consist of two conventional type papers specific to Engineering Discipline with a duration of three hours and maximum marks of 600 (Each paper of 300 Marks).

The Stage-III is a Personality Test/ Personel Interview of 200 Marks. Candidates who qualify Stage-I and Stage-II exam appear for Stage-III (Personality Test). The number of applicants appearing for Personality Test will be about twice the number of openings to be filled.
