About College

Govt. Gandhi Memorial Science College, Jammu established in 1907, was formally known as Prince of Wales College. The College was initially affiliated to Punjab University, Lahore in 1908. From 1931 onwards the college admitted both male and female students, when a separate Maharani Mahila College was opened in the Present Luthra Academy at Kachi Chawni. The College was renamed as Govt. Gandhi Memorial College on 1948. After independence, the college was affiliated to the then J&K University and subsequently to the University of Jammu in 1969, which came into existence under the university act-XXIV. The College is recognized by UGC Act-1956.

The main aim of the College is to make learning socio-economically relevant, to provide ample platform for all-round development of students through sports , cultural and co-curricular activities, to prepare the students to meet the emerging global challenges, to provide effective and modern teaching-learning facilities , keeping pace with the latest educational techniques, to make valuable contribution to the society by inculcating ethical and moral values in our students and to strive for making our students techno-savvy.
