About College

On July 3rd, 1899 a college was born-‘ Bhumihar Brahman College'. L. S. College takes its name after Babu Langat Singh, its founder. In 1915 changed to Greer Bhumihar Brahman College , had started first the negotiation for its take –over by Government. Till about 1949 the name continued, but an agitation was made by the public soon afterwards for a further change. I was at that time a member of the Managing Committee of the College when the subject was taken up for discussion. There were three groups of members. One said it should be called Vaisali College : the other, of which PrincipalFazlur Rahman was the mover, proposed that it should be Muzaffarpur College . ‘Syed Abdul Majid’(A poet, a critic and a social worker and connection with the Congress & reputed teacher of his time.) individually suggested that it should be Langat Singh College , so that the name of the founder be associated with it. There was no compromise. Votes were taken: two gentlemen voted for Vaisali, and two for Muzaffarpur College , and two were for Langat Singh College . The president, Mr. Lal, who was the Commissioner of the Division, gave his casting vote for Langat Singh College .
