Sikkim Manipal Institute of Technology ( SMIT ) Engineering Entrance Exam Admission Procedure-2015

Sikkim Manipal Institute of Technology has announced Admission to the various UG Engineering courses including lateral entry.

Admissions are based on the JEE ( Main ) All India Score or All India Examination conducted by Manipal University ( MU-OET ) or SMIT offline test conducted by  Sikkim Manipal Institute of Technology

For Regular B.Tech Courses:

Candidates seeking admission to B.Tech program ( CSE, CC, EC, IT, ME, EE & CE ) at SMIT may apply in three ways:

Through JEE ( Main ) All India Score:

Eligible candidates will have to appear for one of the entrance examinations depending upon the category under which they are seeking admission. The details of these examinations according to categories are given in the succeeding paragraphs.

General Category, Defense, North East, Gorkha Territorial Administration ( GTA ) and Paramilitary Force Categories:

The candidates will have to appear for the JEE to be conducted by the CBSE.

However, candidates are also required to fill up the SMIT application form and submit the same to SMIT by prescribed date.

Candidates should intimate their JEE ( Main ) Score to SMIT by fax as soon as the JEE results are declared. They must send the downloaded score card along with a photocopy of the original application form already sent in order to be eligible for counseling and admission.                                               

Counseling will be conducted at SMIT on the dates mentioned separately in this prospectus. Please note that SMIT does NOT participate in the counseling carried out by Central Counseling Board of Secondary Education.

Cut-off JEE Main Score in All India JEE applicable to all reserved categories will be displayed on official website.

Sikkim Category:

Candidates   should apply   to the Director, Technical Education, Government of Sikkim. They should appear in the entrance test conducted by the Government, the details of which will be notified by the Director, HRDD, and Technical Education.

Candidates need to fill up the SMIT application form while reporting to the college after counselling by HRDD, Government of Sikkim.

All India Examination conducted by Manipal University MU-OET Category:

Candidates seeking admission under this category will have to appear for Manipal University Online Entrance Test ( MU-OET ) conducted by the Manipal University, Manipal ( Karnataka ) all over India.

Candidates need to send the filled application of Manipal University ( MU ) to the below address:

SMIT offline test:

Candidates   seeking admission under this category will have to appear for offline written test conducted at various centers by SMU.

Candidates need to send the filled application of Sikkim Manipal University ( SMU ) to below address:

Also enclose a DD of Rs.1000/- drawn in favor of “Sikkim Manipal University” payable at “Gangtok”.

For Lateral Entry B.Tech Courses:

20% of seats ( out of approved strength ) are earmarked in each engineering department for lateral entry scheme.

Eligible candidates need to appear in the screening tests conducted at SMIT by the concerned department.

While preparing the merit, 50% weightage is given to aggregate marks obtained in Diploma or B.Sc ( PCM ) and 50% weightage for marks obtained in the screening test.

Candidates need to send entrance examination fee along with duly filled application form.

Candidates seeking admission under lateral entry are advised to contact the Admission Office during the last week of June 

For Reserved Categories:

Sikkim Category:

Candidates seeking admission through Sikkim category need to apply directly to the Director - Technical Education, HRDD, Government of Sikkim.

Defense Category:

Wards of all Defense ( serving / retired ) services personnel are eligible to apply but preference will be given to wards of personnel posted in Sikkim. They should apply with the following:

Certificate from Commanding Officer indicating the place of posting

Discharge Certificates / Retired Identity Card / Pension Payment Order for retired personnel.

North East: Candidates applying under this category need to send the duly filled application along with latest domicile / residence certificate issued by concerned district authorities

Gorkha   Territorial Administration ( GTA ): Sponsorship letter from Principal Secretary, GTA is required, to be submitted.

Para Military Forces ( PMF ): Wards of all Para Military Force ( serving / retired ) personnel are eligible to apply but preference will be given to wards of the personnel posted in Sikkim. They should apply with the following:

Certificate from the Head of the Office indicating the place of posting

Copy of transfer order to Sikkim, where applicable

Discharge Certificates / Retired Identity Card / Pension Payment Order for retired personnel

Persons of Indian Origin ( PIOs ) / Non-Resident Indians ( NRI ) / Foreign Nationals / Indian Workers in Gulf Countries: Candidates seeking admission under this category should be:

Foreign Nationals / Persons of Indian Origin ( PIO ) / Children of Indian Workers in the Gulf Countries

Admission under this category will be given after screening conducted by SMU. Foreign candidates need to obtain registration certificate or No Objection Certificate from Foreigner Registration Office located at Gangtok for admission.

If the candidate himself / herself is not an NRI, then he / she may be sponsored by his / her father, mother, brother, sister, uncle or aunt,  grandparent  who must be an NRI.

Eligibility under this category is similar as mentioned in Eligibility criteria. The format of letter of sponsorship is given at the official website.

Candidates   qualifying from Foreign Universities are required to submit the equivalent grading / percentage of marks from AIU ( Association of Indian Universities, New Delhi ).

Documents required to be submitted with application form ( under this category ) are as under:

Proof of NRI status in case candidate is NRI ( Scanned copy of Passport only ).

Sponsorship   by   NRI if   sponsored,   with scanned copy of passport of the sponsor

Proof of residence of NRI / sponsor

Application by   candidate in plain paper / printed   application   form   either                downloaded from offcial website or as available with the prospectus.

Copy of marks sheet of qualifying examination

For candidates qualifying from foreign Schools / Universities / Institutions, equivalence        certificate from the Association of Indian Universities ( AIU )

A demand draft for a sum of Rs.1,500 in favor of “Sikkim Manipal University”, payable     at “Gangtok”
