The Tamil Nadu Police Force is the law enforcing agency of the state of Tamil Nadu, India. It is over 150 years old and is the fifth largest state police force in India.The administrative control of Tamil Nadu Police vests with the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu who holds the portfolio of Home Minister. The supervision and coordination of Police is done by the Home Department, Govt. of Tamil Nadu. The force is headed by Mr. K. Ramanujam, IPS who is currently the Director General of Police (Law & Order). He is assisted by the Additional Director General of Police (Law & Order), currently Mr. S. George, IPS. For administrative purposes, Tamil Nadu is divided into four zones- North, South, West and Central. Each Zone is headed by one Inspector General of Police. The zones consist of Ranges and Cities headed by city police commissioners, DIGs ( Deputy Inspector General of Police) and SPs ( Superintendent of Police).

Qualifications:-

Age:

The applicant should have attained the age of 20 years and should not be aged above 28 years as on 01.07.2015 (should have been born on or after 01.07.1987 and on or before 01.07.1995).

Educational Qualification

i. Candidates should possess a degree from any University or Institution recognized by the University Grants Commission.

ii. The candidate must have obtained the degree on or before the date of notification i.e. 08.02.2015.

iii. The graduation degree should have been obtained a. after completion of SSLC and Higher Secondary course in the order of 10+2+3 pattern or

b. after completion of SSLC and Diploma in the order of 10+3+3 / 10+3+2 pattern or

c. from an Open University / Distance Education/ College after completion of SSLC and I.T.I in the order of 10+2+3 pattern.

iv. Candidates should have studied Tamil as a subject in X / XII / Degree. If not studied, candidates will have to pass the Tamil-Part II Test conducted by Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission within 2 years of joining the service.

Eligibility for Applying Under 20% Police Departmental Quota

Police Constables and Head Constables and their equivalent ranks in the Armed Reserve Police and Tamil Nadu Special Police can apply under 20% Departmental Quota if they meet the following eligibility criteria under Rule 14 of TNPSS Rules,1953.

a. They should have completed 5 years of service as on the date of notification.

b. They should have a clean record without any punishment other than the minor punishments of black mark, reprimand or censure.

Eligibility For Applying Under 10% Sports Quota:-

Candidates applying under 10% Sports Quota should fulfil all the norms prescribed for open candidates. In addition, the candidate is required to produce Form-I, Form-II or Form-III for the approved 14 games/sports for an event held within 5 years preceding the date of notification to be eligible.

ELIGIBILITY FOR APPLYING UNDER 10% WARDS/DEPENDENT QUOTA

i. 10% of vacancies shall be filled up from the wards/dependents of serving, retired, deceased and medically invalidated police personnel (9%) and wards/dependents of serving ministerial staff of Police Department (1%).

ii. There is no reservation under this quota for wards of other Government Servants.

iii. The ward certificate should be obtained in the prescribed format after the date of notification. Old certificate obtained for any other recruitment will not be entertained. (see reference documents)

iv. If the ward certificate is not furnished in the proper format, the candidate will not be considered under Wards Quota and will be treated as General candidate.

Selection procedure:

All the eligible candidates will be called for Written Examination.

ii. Amongst the candidates clearing the Written Examination, the number of candidates called for second stage of Certificate Verification, Physical Measurement Test, Endurance Test and Physical Efficiency Tests will be in the ratio of 1:5 i.e. the number of candidates called for second stage will be restricted to 5 times the number of vacancies in each quota/category.

iii. Only the candidates clearing the Certificate Verification will be allowed to participate in Physical Measurement Test.

iv. The candidates who qualify in Physical Measurement Test alone will be allowed to attend Endurance Test.

The candidates who qualify in Endurance Test alone will be allowed to attend Physical Efficiency Test.

vi. Candidates who qualify in Physical Efficiency Test will be called for Viva-Voce in the ratio of 1:2 i.e. the number of candidates called for Viva-Voce will be restricted to 2 times the number of vacancies in each quota/category.

Distribution of Marks

Open Quota

Written Examination: 70 Marks

Physical Efficiency Test: 15 Marks

Special Marks: 5 Marks

(NCC 2 marks, NSS 1 mark,

Sports 2 marks)

Viva-voce  : 10 Marks

TOTAL:  100 Marks

Department Quota :

The duration of the Written Examination is 3 hrs.

Minimum pass marks is 35% of 85 marks i.e. 30 marks.

General knowledge: 15 Marks

Communication skills, Numerical skills, LogicalAnalysis, Information handling ability, Indian Penal ,Code, Criminal Procedure Code, Indian Evidence,Act, Police Standing Orders and Police Administration:70 Marks
