About College

A.B.N. Seal College (ABNSC), Cooch Behar was established in 1888 by Maharaja Nripendra Narayan, an enthusiast in expanding learning in this region. First the college was founded in the bustling central hub of the town of Cooch Behar. The first Principal of this College was J.D.Godley.  It was formerly known as Victoria College. As a seat of learning, it has a glorious past. After the merging of the Princely State of Koch Bihar with India in 1950, the Government of West Bengal took up the onus of running this institution. Then this College earned the status of a Government College. In 1970, commemorating the saintly principal’s contribution, this institution was renamed as Acharya Brojendra Nath Seal College. The college offers the under graduate courses in Arts and Science stream. All academic activities are carried out in accordance with the North Bengal University. The college has state-of-the-art technologies and infrastructure.

The college is affiliated to the North Bengal University, established in 1962. It has played a pioneering role since inception in spreading higher education and scientific attitudes within the predominantly rural areas that comprise its vast jurisdictional territory.
